Esattamente un anno fa, il 2 Agosto 2024, usciva il primo LP dei Black Smoke Trigger, vale a dire Horizons! Oggi Alessandro Martucci, speaker e creatore del programma radiofonico Overdrive, omaggia questo fantastico album rock con la sua recensione, che potete leggere qui di seguito.

BLACK SMOKE TRIGGER – HORIZONS
La fortuna di condurre un programma radiofonico dedicato all’hard rock e all’heavy metal è quella di poter conoscere sempre nuove band. Durante la creazione di una puntata, grazie all’amico Gianni Palagi, vengo a conoscenza dei Black Smoke Trigger e dire che è stato amore al primo ascolto è ancora poco! All’epoca del primo passaggio radio su Overdrive, la band era fuori con l’EP “Set it off” e già si poteva presagire che sarebbero andati lontano. I Black Smoke trigger nascono a Napier in Nuova Zelanda nel 2018 e sono composti da Josh Rasmussen alla voce, Charlie Wallace alla chitarra, Dan Fulton al basso e Josh Te Maro alla batteria.
Appena va giù la puntina del giradischi è l’arpeggio di Charlie che ci introduce “Phantom Pain”, un brano che richiama al sound della band che fu di Layne Stanley e Jerry Cantrell. Davvero ottima è “The way down” ma la successiva “Perfect torture” ci fa davvero sognare con la voce di Josh sugli scudi: una performance degna di grandi voci come Chris Cornell o Myles Kennedy. Degne di menzione sono “Proof of life” (la mia preferita del disco), ” Set me on fire”, ” One more chance (don’t let it slip away)”, l’adrenalinica “Never dies” e la conclusiva “Promises” retta da una bella linea di basso di Dan Fulton.
Alla fine dei conti questo “Horizons” è come un attacco degli All Blacks: furioso ed energico e alla fine dell’ultima song, non si può che rimettere nuovamente il disco da capo! Se il futuro del rock e della musica dura dipendesse dai Black Smoke Trigger, bè allora siamo a cavallo!
Oggi “Horizons” compie 1 anno! Bravi ragazzi!

The good thing about hosting a radio show dedicated to hard rock and heavy metal is that I always get to meet new bands. While creating an episode, thanks to my friend Gianni Palagi, I discovered Black Smoke Trigger, and to say it was love at first listen is an understatement! At the time of their first radio play on Overdrive, the band had released the EP “Set It Off,” and it was already clear they would go far. Black Smoke Trigger was formed in Napier, New Zealand, in 2018 and consists of Josh Rasmussen on vocals, Charlie Wallace on guitar, Dan Fulton on bass, and Josh Te Maro on drums. As soon as the needle drops, Charlie’s arpeggio introduces “Phantom Pain,” a song that harks back to the sound of the band that once consisted of Layne Stanley and Jerry Cantrell. “The Way Down” is truly excellent, but the following track, “Perfect Torture,” truly makes us dream, with Josh’s vocals at their best: a performance worthy of great voices like Chris Cornell or Myles Kennedy. Also worthy of mention are “Proof of Life” (my favorite on the album), “Set Me on Fire,” “One More Chance (Don’t Let It Slip Away),” the adrenaline-fueled “Never Dies,” and the closing “Promises,” supported by a beautiful bass line by Dan Fulton. Ultimately, this “Horizons” is like an All Blacks attack: furious and energetic, and by the end of the last song, you can’t help but start the record over again! If the future of rock and hard rock depended on Black Smoke Trigger, well, we’re in luck! Today “Horizons” turns one! Well done, guys!
